Black Magic Woman is terug! Blackness, Sisterhood, reflectie, verdieping en vooruitgang... dat is waar het platform al sinds 1995 voor staat. In 2019 hosten we de eerste editie van een serie vernieuwde, jaarlijkse Black Magic Woman festivals. Vrijdag 5 oktober 2018 bespreken we het werk van Black Magic Women die het afgelopen jaar veel betekend hebben op het gebied van social justice, representatie en pop(ular) culture. Het programma heeft een Engels- en een Nederlandstalig onderdeel.

Programma
20.00u – A Sisterly salute (Nederlands)
Black Magic Woman eert drie van de politici die zich tijdens de afgelopen gemeenteraadsverkiezingen hebben ingezet voor representatie in het bestuur van onze steden: Sanne-Louise de Bruin (Den Haag), Ugbaad Kilincci (Emmen) en Carla Kabamba (Amsterdam). We zullen het met ze hebben over het belang van Sisterhood en self-care in verkiezingstijd.
Host: Domenica Ghidei Biidu.

20.15u - Panel 1: Representatie in fashion en film. (Nederlandstalig)
Hosts: Bēylula Yosef. 
Met: Janice Deul, Tosca Vrede, Rowan Blijd en Grâce Ndjako.
Er is een pauze tussen het eerste en het tweede panel.

21.00u - Panel 2: Representatie in literatuur en andere vormen van storytelling. (Engels)
Host: Marly Pierre-Louis.
Met: Sarah Ozo-Irabor (Verenigd Koninkrijk), Bēylula Yosef en Yomi Adegoke (Verenigd Koninkrijk).

Tijdens ons intro-event maken we de thema's voor het festival in 2019 bekend en lanceren we onze call for papers waarmee we op zoek gaan naar panelleden en andere gastsprekers.

- Sister Circle
Van 18:00u tot 19:00u is er een sessie van de Sister Circle, georganiseerd door Stephany Biezen, Saundra Williams en Minchenu Maduro. Het thema is 'Lief zijn voor jezelf'. Deze bijeenkomst is gratis toegankelijk voor Sisters met een Black Magic Woman-ticket en zal in het Nederlands zijn.

Black Magic Woman is back! Blackness, Sisterhood, reflection, in depth conversations and progress... that’s what the platform has been about since 1995. In 2019, we’re hosting the first edition of a series of new, annual festivals. On Friday October 5 we’ll talk about the work of Black Magic Women whose work with regards to social justice, representation and pop(ular) cultures shaped 2018.

20.00h – A Sisterly salute (in Dutch)
Black Magic Woman honours three of the politicians who, during the last local elections, fought hard for representation in our city councils: Sanne-Louise de Bruin (The Hague), Ugbaad Kilincci (Emmen) and Carla Kabamba (Amsterdam). We’ll talk with them about the importance of Sisterhood and self-care during election time.

During our pre-event we’ll also announce the themes of our 2019 festival and we’ll launch the call for paper that’ll help us look for panellists and other guest speakers.

- Sister Circle
From 18:00h-19:00h there will be a session of Sister Circle, the initiative of Stephany Biezen, Saundra Williams and Minchenu Maduro. This session is free for Sisters who purchased a ticket for the Black Magic Woman event. The theme of the event is "Being kind to yourself" and the session will be in Dutch.
